Wrestling: Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders Defeat Johnson Crusaders Behind Strong Performances


CLARK, NJ –  Scotch Plains juniors Sam Wustefeld (182) and Jacob Perrone (126) both produced great numbers in their matches to help lift the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders past the Johnson Crusaders by a final score of 64-15 Wednesday evening in Clark.

Wustefield secured the victory and points, by pinning down his opponent, Nick Rabeno at 2:12 of the second round of their bout in the 182-pound match, after providing three takedowns and a two-point near takedown earlier in the match. He secured ten match points in this bout to give his team a boost, improving their score on the evening to 24-10.

“We’ve just got to keep working hard, doing what we’ve been doing at practice and I think we’ll be okay moving forward for the rest of the season and strive for our goals,” Wustefeld said.

Perrone also had a great match for the Raiders on the night, with four takedowns along with one near-takedown and a reversal, which all connected to help secure the victory in the 126-pound match against Christopher Manning of Johnson, gaining 12 match points for the Raiders.
