Stephanie Visconti’s Inside-The-Park Home Run Leads Johnson Crusaders to NJSIAA Central, Group 2 State Sectional Final

BORDENTOWN, NJ – Arthur L. Johnson High School senior Stephanie Visconti was not ready to play her last high school softball game on the road, and made sure that her team would come through on top whenever she was at the plate in Tuesday’s NJSIAA Central, Group 2 matchup against the No. 2 Bordentown Scotties. No. 3 Johnson defeated Bordentown 4-2.

Visconti went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, including a go-ahead inside-the-park two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning.

“It’s just amazing,” Visconti said. “We started off with winning the conference and the counties and now we have a chance to win the states, so I’m just so happy right now.”

The big play came when Visconti hit a deep fly ball. Bordentown right fielder Annabella Marino dove for the catch but missed it and the ball rolled to the back wall.

Junior Shannon Brogan easily scored and as Visconti ran towards third base she was immediately waved home by head coach Mike Mancino. She scored without a throw to the plate.

“Honestly, I was nervous, I didn’t think I would have the chance at running home,” Visconti said. “She [Marino] fumbled it in the field. I scored and that’s all that matters, so it was great.”

Senior teammate Gabby Zatko said she was happy for Visconti’s big play and called Visconti an “amazing athlete.”
