Ice Hockey: Governor Livingston Highlanders Lose Close Battle to Middletown North Despite Carson Wahlers’ Hat Trick

MIDDLETOWN, NJ-  Governor Livingston Highlanders’ junior co-captain Carson Wahlers recorded a hat trick on the evening for his team. He secured it with a goal that came with 15 seconds left in the second period to tie the game at 3-3, as the Governor Livingston fans who made the road trip cheered him on. The scores were his first three goals on the season.

“It gives me confidence,” Wahlers said. “It makes people look up to me and makes me want to play better.”

“He’s one of the guys who’s really started to step up and shoot the puck a little bit more at the right times,” Governor Livingston head coach Matt Anderson said. “It’s important for our offense when we’re not holding onto the puck [that long]. We’ve got to move it a little more quicker.”

As for the game, Carson Wahlers and his team took the ice in pursuit of their first win of the season, but a late penalty cost the Highlanders. Middletown North Lions senior Kurt Kroper scored a power-play goal with 6:58 left in the third period as the Lions held off the Highlanders by a final score of 4-3 Friday night at the Middletown Sports Complex.
