RAHWAY- Third-seeded Rahway had come one win short of competing for the state championship last season, but on Saturday, they cleared the hurdle with a 28-7 win over South Plainfield in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 Semifinals at Rahway River Park.
Rahway will travel to play at top-seeded Summit in the finals next week, featuring a pair of teams who only lost one game coming into action (Rahway to Somerville, Summit to Cranford). The Indians reached the finals for the first time since 2008, seeking their first championship since 1984.
Dashon Moore ran for three touchdowns while Jakir Robinson threw a touchdown pass to Brayden Pierre-Louis. The Rahway defense swarmed South Plainfield’s offense, grabbing two interceptions and stopping South Plainfield on a fake punt attempt, which set the Indians up on the first touchdown of the game. The second one was set up by a lost fumble and the third one was a recovery by the Indians on the kickoff after going ahead 14-0.
All of Rahway’s scores were set up by turnovers and mistakes from South Plainfield. The win is also Rahway’s ninth in a row after a 42-31 setback to No. 5 Somerville in their home opener.
