CLARK, NJ- The Arthur L. Johnson High School Crusaders varsity field hockey team returned to action for their Pink-Out Game, to begin their last round of regular season games with the start of the state tournament coming around. This game had a more significance than just another game on the schedule.
The game was dedicated to Donna Francisco, the mother of Johnson senior co-captain and goaltender Emma Francisco. Donna battled breast cancer and recently beat the disease.
“This game meant a lot to me,” Emma Francisco said. “I played for my mom today. I’m just so thankful she’s okay now. Cancer hits a lot of people. I’m just happy my mom’s okay and my team played for her and my team was here for me the whole time.”
The teams then took to the field for the game. Senior Danielle Nugent scored two goals as the Crusaders defeated the Newark Academy High School Minuteman by a final score of 4-0 Monday afternoon in Clark.
