WOODBRIDGE, NJ- The Union and Middlesex County All-Stars took to the Nicolas A. Priscoe Field at Woodbridge High School for Snapple Bowl XXV on Thursday’s evening. The game brought together players that all recently graduated high school for one last challenge. In many cases this game brings former rivals together as teammates.
For Union, Arthur L. Johnson’s Mike Casalino took the field for one final game and said it was quite an honor to be selected to give it one final go on the gridiron.
“The atmosphere was great because of how many people came out to support everyone playing in the game,” Casalino said. “It was fun to get to know and play with some of the players I played against in previous years.”
On the evening, he had about six or seven tackles on defense, where he saw most of his action on the field.
“My amazing teammates and coaches helped me make the most out of my football career,” Casalino said. “It was great to be able to suit up one more time and to play for a good cause.”
According to a story on mycentraljersey.com, all the money raised that evening at the Snapple Bowl went towards Children’s Specialized Hospital of Mountainside and the Lakeview School, located in Edison.
Joe Turek of Johnson was also selected to play, but a knee injury prevented him from taking part in the All-Star Game.
The cheerleaders from Johnson who participated were Emily DeLima, Amanda Pratt, Marissa Petronella, Adriana Palmucci and Samantha Tavares.
