Boys Soccer: Governor Livingston Highlanders Play to a Tie with Summit in Darkness-Shortened Game

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ-  The Governor Livingston High School Highlanders boys varsity soccer team took to the field for the first time since their first round loss in the NJSIAA Central, Group 2 state tournament, looking to end their season on a winning note. They played toe-and-toe with the Summit High School Hilltoppers, in a game which featured four second half goals, with the teams playing to a 2-2 tie Wednesday afternoon in Berkeley Heights.

The game was suspended after the second half with the score tied at 2-2 because of darkness.

After a scoreless first half which featured a few chances from both teams, but nothing on the scoreboard, the Highlanders would break the ice. Senior Mason Boenning fired a shot on goal that trickled past the Summit goaltender to give his team the 1-0 lead.

Summit responded minutes later to tie the game at 1-1, with the teams picking up pressure on both sides of the field.

Governor Livingston was rewarded a penalty kick after Summit was called for a handball in the crease area and senior co-captain Josiah Crawford stepped up, looking to give his team the lead back, but his shot was stopped, with the score still tied 1-1.
