Boys Soccer: Crisafi, Miller Score as New Providence Pioneers Defeat Belvidere HS in NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 Quarterfinals

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ- The New Providence High School Pioneers knew a physical game was ahead as they took to their home field against the Belvidere High School County Seaters in this NJSIAA North 2 Group 1 quarterfinal match-up.

“We knew they were going to play direct and we knew we had to stay very organized on their set plays and especially their long throws,” New Providence head coach Jon Panella said. “We knew we were going to have to play our game of getting organized and quickly going after the combination play.”

The Pioneers got goals from senior Joe Crisafi and junior James Miller as the top-seeded Pioneers defeated the eighth-seeded County Seaters by a final score of 2-0 Friday afternoon in New Providence.

Following a series of corner kicks, Crisafi got the ball and cashed in on a chance, firing away on net and banked it home for his sixth goal of the season at the 26:30-mark of the first half. With the teams trading chances back and forth, the task was simple for the Pioneers — get more on the scoreboard and get to the next round of the state tournament.
