Boys Basketball: Johnson Crusaders Lose to South Brunswick HS, Look Ahead to Busy Week

CLARK, NJ-  The Arthur L. Johnson High School Crusaders returned home to take on the South Brunswick High School Vikings (Monmouth Junction), hoping to get back in the win column. Despite having an early lead, the Crusaders couldn’t keep up as the afternoon went along, losing to the Vikings 68-47 Saturday afternoon in Clark.

Johnson leaped out to an 11-6 lead, fueled by senior Brandon Hund, who added seven points in the opening minutes of the contest. South Brunswick used a timeout to talk things over and the offensive spark they were looking for came quickly.

The Vikings went on a 9-0 scoring run, taking a 12-11 lead after the opening eight minutes and increasing their lead to 15-11. Johnson senior Marcos Castro drained a three-point basket to cut the deficit to 15-14, but that was as close as the Crusaders would get on the day.

South Brunswick increased the lead to 28-17 with a 13-3 run over a duration of four minutes. The Vikings were led by Ahkil Edeker’s eight points in the quarter, as the Vikings outscored the Crusaders 18-10 to extend their advantage into the second half. South Brunswick continued to add on to their lead, as they held Johnson scoreless for the first portion of the quarter.

South Brunswick opened the third quarter on a 10-0 scoring run, receiving contributions from Devin Strickland (seven points) and Edeker (five points). Johnson got their first points of the quarter from Kosiek. The Vikings led 47-31 as the teams moved into the fourth quarter, where the Vikings coasted to the road win.
