CLARK, NJ- The Arthur L. Johnson High School Crusaders returned back home to take on the Governor Livingston High School Highlanders, hoping to get another game in the win column. Once the game got underway, seniors Ryan Davey, Matt Faller and Coldon all went right to work with the team.
The trio combined for 52 points as the Highlanders defeated the Crusaders 63-48 Friday night in Clark.
Governor Livingston got a ton of successful looks on offense, especially from behind the arc. The Highlanders, as a team, drained 12 three-pointers on the night, with eight of those shots coming from those two combined.
“You hear [Matt and Ryan] and they play unselfish a lot of times. They know what others can do,” Governor Livingston head coach Chris Loeffler said. “They’re seniors, they’ve been playing together a long time. They know the confidence they have in each other. They know if you give [Ryan] Davey an open look, he’s knocking it down.”
“If they set a screen for Faller, he’s getting to the lane and he’s getting us at least to the foul line,” he added. “We challenged some guys after Tuesday night’s loss and we had some guys step up tonight. Josh [Coldon], in the first quarter, knocking down an outside shot and a three.”
The Highlanders wasted no time to get back in the lead after allowing a quick three-pointer by Johnson senior Brandon Hund. Davey and senior Josh Coldon added five points each in the quarter as they grabbed a 16-7 lead after the first eight minutes of action.
Governor Livingston gave themselves a huge advantage with four three-pointers as the second quarter progressed. Davey, Coldon, senior Dylan DeFronzo and junior Vin Melluzzi each drained a triple as the visitors took a 30-15 lead into halftime.
