CLARK, NJ – Arthur L. Johnson High School senior Gabby Zatko joined the list of 2015-2016 athletes who achieved milestones when she recorded her 100th varsity softball career hit in a 6-5 victory over West Deptford High School during last Tuesday’s NJSIAA Group 2 state semifinal game.
A leadoff double in the top of the first inning on the first pitch of the game was the clincher, the milestone hit, for Zatko. The hit set the tone for the game, and was a key factor in the victory.
“I was extremely surprised that my 100th hit was a double down the baseline because I was nervous,” Zatko said. “Once it hit the bat I knew and felt relief that I could play the rest of the game worrying about my teammates and not myself.”
Zatko said she has been dedicated to playing softball for many years and that being successful for her teammates and parents motivates her to play her heart out each day.
