CLARK, NJ – The Arthur L. Johnson High School Crusaders varsity football team continued their hot streak as they took the field at home on Friday night, defeating the Belvidere High School County Seaters 21-7. It was the last regular season home game and senior night in Clark.
The County Seaters started with the football, electing to receive, but the Johnson defense forced them to punt. The Crusaders got the football at their own 33-yard line, and grinded through with multiple running plays, capitalizing on a scoring play.
Senior Eddie Bergin ran it in for a 5-yard rush for the touchdown, and after the extra point, Johnson had a 7-0 lead to end the first quarter. The Crusaders’ fourth drive began on their own 17-yard line. Bergin provided an explosive 66-yard rush for the touchdown. With the extra point, Johnson led 14-0.
Bergin, who finished the night with seven carries and 78 rushing yards to go along with his 66-yard rushing touchdown, felt it was an important win.
“This one puts us in the playoffs, and puts us in a great position to get us back into the playoffs,” Bergin said. “It puts us in a great spot.”
