CLARK, NJ- One year removed from what was perhaps the most successful football season in the last decade, the Arthur L. Johnson High School Crusaders varsity football team is hoping to build off the successes of the 2017 season.

The Crusaders went 8-3 in the 2017 season, capturing the Mid-State 38 Valley Division Conference Championship, the first conference win for the program since the 2006 season.

They reached the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 2 Semifinals for the second time in the past three seasons, losing to Hillside High School 19-16. The Crusaders are working to get even further this year.

“The one thing from last year that [the kids] did, really in the years we got rolling, was the buy-in from the kids and believing what we’re doing,” Johnson fifth-year head coach Anthony DelConte said. “Their work ethic, believing in hard work, doing it for one another [was amazing].”

“When we got rolling and clicked, that’s when we meshed together as a unit,” he added.
