Girls Soccer: New Providence Pioneers Storm Past Linden Tigers in Union County Tournament Preliminary Round

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ-  The 9th seeded New Providence Pioneers girls soccer team took control on offense throughout the entire game and never let up, defeating the 16-seeded Linden Tigers by a final score of 5-1 Thursday afternoon in New Providence in the Union County Tournament Preliminary Round.

New Providence immediately went to work and put early pressure on Linden in the opening 12 minutes of the game to open the scoring.

Junior Yasmin Stedman cashed in for a combo, one-time chance in front of the net for her first goal of the season at the 15:02-mark of the first half, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.

“Our main focus was to get it in the back of the net,” Stedman said. “We put it in our heads that we really want to make the future great and keep playing these games the best we can. Putting that first goal in got our intensity up.”

New Providence continued to bring on the intensity and kept the ball in the Linden zone and got another goal right before the half.

Senior and team-scoring leader Riley Kinum gave her team the extra goal at the 36:23-mark of the first half
