Victoria Zatko, Mackenzie Purcell Lead Johnson in Rout of Rahway in Union County Tournament First Round

CLARK, NJ – Arthur L. Johnson High School freshman Victoria Zatko connected on her first varsity career grand slam in Union County softball tournament first round play on Saturday, building a massive lead that ended with the No. 1 Crusaders overpowering No. 17 Rahway, 15-3.

Zatko nailed a deep fly ball to center field in the bottom of the second inning to earn the four runs.

“I think it’s important that we don’t let everything get to us,” Zatko said. “Just keep hitting, keep playing our hardest. If you hit a grand slam, [or] if you hit a home run, don’t let it get to you and keep the bat going.”

The Johnson bats were the story of the game. Despite two runs on back-to-back RBI doubles in the top of the first, Rahway could not withstand the Crusader onslaught.
