Previewing Johnson Varsity Football Season Opener at Governor Livingston HS- Week 0

CLARK, NJ-  It is hard to believe, but it is that time of year once again, the start of the high school football season. The Arthur L. Johnson High School Crusaders varsity football team will open up their 2018 season on the road at Governor Livingston HS tomorrow afternoon, August 30, at 3:00 p.m.

HISTORY:

The two teams have met the past three seasons. Johnson won a game which featured a complete monsoon on October 2 by a final score of 12-0.

In 2016, Johnson defeated Governor Livingston by a final score of 35-20.

In last year’s regular season finale, Johnson steamrolled Governor Livingston by a final score of 41-6.

NOTES:

Governor Livingston begins a new season with sixth-year head coach Dan Guyton.

There is a new era of leadership on the field.

Quarterback Drew Rittman takes over as the quarterback. While most players return from last year, a new quarterback will be leading the Highlanders on the field.

For Johnson, they are led by fifth-year head coach Anthony DelConte and have a sophomore quarterback leading the way in Joe Greenbush.

Senior running back Sebastian Iakouchevitch, who was named one of the two captains last week, will look to build on a productive football career for the Crusaders, which featured six TD’s and around 650 rushing yards.

Other running backs pacing Johnson include junior Max Carmino and Evan Parenti and senior Tom Sweeney getting major reps on the running game, along with junior John Cuccolo.

Senior tight end and defender Rico Veltre was named the second co-captain of the Crusaders, who are in the NJSIAA South, Group 2 bracket, with all the changes that were made and approved to the New Jersey High School Football playoffs in the offseason.

Governor Livingston is in the NJSIAA North, Group 3 bracket.

Tomorrow afternoon marks the start of the season for both teams and coverage will be of the highest proportions for the upcoming season.
