Johnson Crusaders Girls Varsity Soccer Beat Voorhees HS in NJSIAA Central, Group 2 Quarterfinals Behind Deserae Sequeira’s Hat Trick

CLARK, NJ – Arthur L. Johnson High School senior and co-captain Deserae Sequeira continues to add to her 2016 goal tally, recording her fifth hat trick of the season to help lead the No. 1 seeded Crusaders past the No. 8 seeded Voorhees Vikings by a final score of 4-1 Friday afternoon at Nolan Field in the NJSIAA Central, Group 2 tournament quarterfinals.

Her first goal came on a penalty kick at the 22:14 mark of the first half. Her kick, from the 6-yard line, hit toward the corner and went in, giving the Johnson Crusaders the 1-0 lead, which they would carry over to halftime.

The Voorhees Vikings tied the game at the 10:00 mark of the second half from sophomore Lexington Wolf, her third goal of the season.

The Crusaders displayed great energy and created several scoring chances during the second half, but for much of it did not connect with the net. Except, that is, for a five-minute span later in the period that got the crowd wild and put the game out of reach.

“It was unbelievable. I thought it was very exciting,” ALJ head coach Meredith Peitz said. “The fans were pumped, the players were pumped and we were pumped as coaches. The girls were firing away and within five minutes, they scored three goals.”

“We said in the huddle [after the game] that their energy was a game-changer,” she added. “It was 1-1 all the way up until that point and once the bench and the fans started cheering, the whole game turned around.”
