CLARK, NJ- The Arthur L. Johnson High School Crusaders varsity field hockey team began their state tournament, looking to take a step forward in their goal towards a sectional championship.
In an offensive outburst, the fourth-seeded Crusaders defeated the 13th-seeded Keyport High School Raiders in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 First Round by a final score of 9-0 Wednesday afternoon in Clark.
Junior Kaylee Parkhill scored four goals for the Crusaders, while sophomore Emma Hilton tallied three goals in the victory.
Senior Danielle Nugent and junior Amanda Zambrana tallied a goal each, while junior Alyssa Colicchio and senior co-captain Amy Wysocki dished out two assists apiece for Johnson in the win.
Senior co-captain and goaltender Emma Francisco stopped both shots that came her way in the victory for Johnson.
The Johnson Crusaders (16-3) advance to the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 Quarterfinals. They will face off against fifth-seeded Metuchen HS in a home game Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
They play their last regular season game at home Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. against Pingry HS.
The Keyport Raiders finish their 2017 season with a 4-12 record.
