BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ- The Governor Livingston High School Highlanders honored their 2017 seniors before taking to the field Wednesday evening.
Josiah Crawford, Connor King, Francisco Cunningham, Rob Penna, Bryant Wong, Doug Ladzinski, Mason Boenning were all honored in a pregame ceremony for their years of hard work and dedication to the program.
“It’s just watching them mature as players and as adults,” Governor Livingston head coach Bruno Somma said. “We had [a few of the seniors] that came in as freshmen and played varsity for the most part. To watch them grow and watch them has become very, very pleasing.”
“They turned out to be not just good players, but good gentlemen,” he added.
Once it was over, the Highlanders took to the field. With an early offensive outburst, they got goals from Crawford and sophomore Justin Ladzinski as the Highlanders defeated the Oratory Prep High School Rams by a final score of 2-1 at Synder Avenue Field in Berkeley Heights.
In the opening minutes, the Highlanders and Rams traded scoring chances and rushes before the home team struck first. Crawford sped into an area of the Oratory Prep zone and a shot at the net went in to give his team the 1-0 lead. He now has 12 goals on the season.
The Highlanders appeared to have momentum from the crowd of students that came to the game to show their support on Senior Night.
