CLARK, NJ- The Arthur L. Johnson High School Crusaders and Governor Livingston High School Highlanders both entered Wednesday afternoon’s matchup with 2-0 records. In the end, it was the Crusaders who remained undefeated on the season, coming through with a 9-0 victory over the Highlanders.
From the start of the game, Johnson immediately set the tone, controlling the ball and creating several scoring chances, but the shots weren’t turning into goals.
Sophomore Emma Hilton changed all of that with a goal at the 7:46-mark of the first half. The goal, assisted by sophomore Kaylee Parkhill, was her second goal of the season.
Following Hilton’s goal, Johnson continued to apply pressure and Parkhill cashed in for a goal at the 12:11-mark of the first half, making the game 2-0 Crusaders.
As the final minutes of the half came around, Wysocki got a part in the offensive surge with a goal, making it 3-0 Crusaders, the score at halftime.
In the process, Johnson did not allow many chances for the Governor Livingston offense, only allowing three Highlanders shots on goal.
The offensive pressure continued in the second half, where the Crusaders scored six of their nine goals.
